Helical piers are steel pipes fitted with helices, or screw-like plates at the end. The helices pull the pier into place.
Helical piers do an excellent job at stabilizing foundations and retaining walls.
Once you install helical piers they are permanent. Helical piers cannot be unscrewed from the earth and moved to support the separate structure, such as a garage or other home addition. Therefore, new home additions will require new helical piers.
Installing helical piers is a faster and a more efficient process compared to push piers installation. Additionally, helical piers require minimal excavation and can be installed either inside or outside the home.
Helical piers can be used to repair existing foundations. They can also be used to assist in new foundation construction. Often, helical piers may be more economical, and cost effective than excavation and other deep-foundation repair solutions.
Push piers are made of heavy-duty steel and are connected to the foundation by a steel foundation bracket. Push Piers are pushed into the ground using the buildings weight.
Helical piers cost more than push piers because helical piers are a specialized piece of equipment. Helices allow the piers to lock into competent, load-bearing soil.
While, push piers simply support the structure they are underpinning. Unlike helical piers, push piers don’t lock into place. Push piers connect the house to stable, load-bearing soil or bedrock.
Foundation push piers stabilize foundations that are settling or sinking as well as displaying symptoms such as cracked foundation walls, jamming doors, or windows.
P ush piers can pierce dense and rocky soil easily. On the other hand, gelical piers don’t handle dense or rocky layers of soil well.
Helical piers can also be used to repair an existing foundation or assist in new foundation construction, and they are more economical and cost-effective than excavation and other deep-foundation repair solutions
